Case Study: Latissimus Flap with Implant

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 1

i perform nipple reconstruction as a two step process. First, I make a nipple from the local tissue and surround it with a graft from a donor area (non hair bearing). Second procedure is to add pigment (a tattoo) approximately four months after the reconstruction. I use 3-5 colors  to create a natural appearance and highlight the 3d effect. this is a great example of my two step nipple reconstruction.

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 2

This patient had left breast cancer and underwent bilateral mastectomy (see purple markings outlining skin excision component).  She underwent immediate bilateral breast reconstruction with latissimus flaps and implants, later followed by nipple reconstruction and tattooing.  A fine result.

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 3

Unilateral mastectomy and breast reconstruction can be very challenging. Especially, involving symmetry issues and mastectomy camouflage. Sometimes latissimus flap and implant and opposite breast surgery (augmentation here) is the best solution. This patient desired a more full breast overall. A great outcome!

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 4

This patient chose bilateral latissimus flap and implants to be done at the time of her bilateral mastectomy because she wanted to be as close to completed after one single surgery.

An outstanding result after bilateral mastectomy.

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 5

This patient had breast cancer and underwent bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction using latissimus flap and silicone gel implants.  An exceptional result.  (note correction of saggy breasts!)

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 6

Many patients prefer to get as much accomplished at the time of mastectomy.

Here, bilateral mastectomy was combined with bilateral latissimus flaps and implants.  Later, (after chemo and before radiation) nipple reconstruction was done.  After recovery from radiation, the final pigmentation (tattooing) was done.  A fine result.

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 7

This patient chose bilateral bilateral latissimus flap and implants as her method of reconstruction for bilateral mastectomy.  Latissimus flap and implants combined with fat grafting at the time of nipple reconstruction has the potential to camouflage the mastectomy defect (which can be significantly disfiguring) the best of any method of reconstruction.  A great result

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 8

Shown prior to nipple reconstruction this patient underwent bilateral mastectomy (markings shown for mastectomy incisions dictated my mastectomy surgeon) and bilateral latissimus flap with implant reconstruction.  A natural and soft reconstruction.

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 9

Patients who prefer to wake up from mastectomy surgery nearly completely reconstructed often will choose latissimus flap and implants.  Although there is a scar on the back, there are less scars on the breast.

Here bilateral latissimus flaps and implants create a fine breast with no detectable breast scars.  An amazing result after total mastectomy.

Breast Reconstruction by Latissimus Flap with Implant – Case 10

This patient underwent a bilateral mastectomy for breast cancer and simultaneous bilateral latissimus flap with implants.  She is shown after mastectomy and first stage of reconstruction, then again after nipple reconstruction and tattooing. An amazing result after mastectomy.
