Brow Lift

Brow Lift in NJ

Brow lift surgery corrects a common problem of aging: sagging eyebrows that can cause the upper eyelids to droop, giving your face a tired or sad look even when you feel alert and happy. A brow lift also smooths forehead lines. When sagging eyebrows cause the upper eyelids to droop far enough to interfere with vision, brow lift surgery can restore your full range of view.

Brow lift surgery is a highly customized procedure. To optimize every result, I tailor surgical plans for each patient’s unique facial anatomy. Our reputation has attracted people from more than 25 states and 17 different countries to our practice. We want every patient to remember us for having been a positive, life-changing influence. What Happens to the Eyebrows During Aging?

As you age, the skin and connective tissue in the forehead tend to stretch and weaken, causing the eyebrows to droop, and with them, the upper eyelids. With a brow lift, I can provide you with a more natural, smoother, and youthful appearance around your eyes, eyebrows, and forehead!

SURGEON BY TRADE

I am a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in breast cancer reconstructive surgery and cosmetic procedures of the breast, body, and face. ARTIST AT HEART

Art is my other passion, and my artist’s vision guides my work as a surgeon. I have done technical illustrations for many journal articles, book chapters, and patient resource pamphlets for national societies. I am also an accomplished painter, sculptor, and photographer. When you visit our office, you’ll see a gallery of reproductions of many of my pieces in oil, graphite, and photography.

Why You Might Consider a Brow Lift

If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your eyes and the upper portion of your face because of the effects of aging, a brow lift may be the solution to restoring a younger, brighter, and more attractive look.

A brow lift can:

  • Raise drooping eyebrows
  • Lift upper eyelids that have drooped due to sagging eyebrows
  • Smooth lines and creases in the forehead and between the eyebrows
  • Improve your vision by lifting eyebrows and upper eyelids that block part of your field of view
  • Give your face a younger, more alert, and less worried appearance

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Ideal candidates for a brow lift have sagging eyebrows and may deal with troubling lines and creases in the forehead or between the eyebrows.

Drooping upper eyelids can result from skin laxity and sagging eyebrows. In your consultation, I can tell you whether the most effective treatment for your drooping upper eyelids is an upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), a brow lift, or both. In many cases, I can correct what appears to be a problem with the upper eyelids by elevating your eyebrows.

Ideal candidates also:

  • Are in overall good general health
  • Have no severe medical conditions that can impact healing
  • Have realistic expectations for their results

If you smoke, vape, use any nicotine, cannabinoid, and/or ADHD medication, you must be willing to stop for several weeks before and after your surgery.

What to Expect During a Brow Lift Consultation

During your consultation, I will talk to you about your previous medical treatments and surgeries, current medications, drug and alcohol use, drug allergies, and surgical goals. My team and I will also evaluate your general health status, take photographs, discuss surgery options, and recommend a plan of action, as well as discuss likely outcomes and potential risks.

How to Prepare for Brow Lift Surgery

To prepare for brow lift surgery, you may need to adjust your current medications, stop smoking, and avoid taking aspirin or over-the-counter drugs that may increase bleeding or bruising. You should also arrange for someone to drive you to and from our outpatient surgical center. [However, I do give patients the option to stay in the hospital overnight.]

What Happens During Brow Lift Surgery?

I perform brow lift surgery using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.

In a brow lift, I make a series of short incisions behind the hairline, then gently raise and tighten the underlying forehead muscles using endoscopy. Removing a small amount of excess skin subtly elevates the eyebrows while smoothing lines and creases in the forehead and between the eyebrows.

Brow lift surgery typically takes between 30 minutes and an hour.

What to Expect in Recovery

My team and I will give you specific instructions on how to care for yourself as you heal, medications to apply or take orally, specific concerns to look out for, and when to follow up.

After a brow lift, you may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort over the first few days of your recovery. These side effects usually disappear in a week or two.

Most patients see results within 10 to 14 days, in a brighter, more rested, and younger appearance. Those results improve over the following weeks as all residual swelling disappears.

Brow Lift FAQs

The improvements made with a brow lift will make you look younger and more attractive for decades. It is among the most enduring procedures I perform. Of course, your skin will continue to age, but these changes will begin from a younger-looking starting point. Good skin care, including protection from the sun and healthy nutrition and exercise, can prolong your results. At Spiro Plastic Surgery, we sell medical-grade skin care products, which can also contribute to longer-lasting outcomes.

Yes. A brow lift pairs well with Botox® or dermal filler treatments to soften facial lines and wrinkles that are outside the areas improved with the surgery. You may choose to combine a brow lift with eyelid surgery and a facelift or neck lift for long-lasting, comprehensive improvements from your forehead to your collarbone.

All plastic surgery leaves scars, but I place incisions to make any resulting scars as invisible as possible. The small incisions for a brow lift are just behind the hairline to conceal scarring.
